Internship Description

We are a Bay Area nonprofit organization that strengthens communities, cultivates belonging, and catalyzes inclusion through inter-cultural and co-created art. Our team of artists uses inspiration from their cultures and art forms to collaborate on unique performances and expressions that highlight the common threads of our shared American story.

We are seeking talented and creative high school students with strong research skills and interest and understanding of cultural diversity in Arts. The candidate will need to be highly motivated, work well under pressure, be open to constructive feedback, and keep up with the fast-paced and rapidly changing social media landscape.

This is a groundbreaking project that will offer unique research experience. In fact, this project is the basis of one undergraduate and two graduate courses at San Jose State University (Depts of Anthropology, Urban Planning and Design). A perfect project for a highly motivated, resourceful sophomore or junior.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with secondary data collection from online databases, social media sites, search engines, and more.
  • Follow a guide provided by the organization for finding individuals and organizations of specific culturally distinct communities (CDC) and entering them into Google Spreadsheets / Excel.
  • The intern will be expected to have familiarity with conducting specialized online search materials through search engines.
  • Should be able to input the data found into a spreadsheet with the correct information.
  • Help identify possible leads that are priority members of the community for other members of the Team to interview.
  • The intern will be given one CDC per week to collect information on.
  • Student is expected to work between 5-10 hours per week collecting and inputting data. 

Additional Information

Duration: 10-12 Weeks (possibility of extension) Immediate start.

The project is expected to run through mid 2023 – with Mentor approval students will have an opportunity to work during the school year.

Required Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Strong written and verbal communication, Excellent research skills including but not limited to social media research.

Desired Skills: Strong web-based research and analytical skills, ability to conduct and analyze keywords searches and Background knowledge relating to the project.
